“Lord, I will lift my eyes to the hills
Knowing my help is coming from You
Your peace,’ You give me in time of the storm
You are the source of my strength
You are the strength of my life
I lift my hands in total praise to You.”
Happy Sunday. God bless!

Richard Smallwood – Total Praise Lyrics | MetroLyrics
Role reversals are interesting when it occurs between parents and children. Very telling is when our little girls become women. In their journeys into womanhood and motherhood, daughters may look back and better understand their Mothers’ plights. It is called relatedness. Beyonce’s new song, “Ring Off” was brought to my attention by my baby girl who is now a woman. Gee, how times fly! Beyonce saw her Mother’s happiness, sadness, joy, pain, betrayal, and tears. Now, she is seeing her Mother’s strength as she rebounds from the devastation and humiliation of divorce. I am sure that her admiration leaped miles and bounds as she witnessed her Mother rise from the ashes of hurt. If and when life knocks you down, rising up is harder than the descent. Thus, Beyonce is encouraging her Mother Tina to take off her wedding ring, that round circle that should encapsulate love eternally, and love once again! Unfortunately, she did not have to utter those words to her Father Matthew. He took his ring off years ago with his adulterous affairs.
The lyrics tell the story:
“I understand your many sleepless nights / When you sit and you think about Father / Or how you tried to be the perfect wife. Until you had enough then you took that ring off … Dust yourself off and you love again / You found a new man now you shine and you’re fine / Like it’s my time, you took that ring off.”
Time brings about a lucid understanding to every aspect of our lives. We see clearer. Beyonce understands that and so does my daughter Phoebe. Thank you for sharing baby girl!

Will you be standing in the crowded lines; driving in traffic jams? Where are you going? Walmart’s, Target’s, Kohl’s, Best Buy….? Humorously, Black Friday should be called green Friday. From the consumer’s hands, those green dollar bills start running like water. Kicking off Christmas spending, it is considered the biggest shopping day of the year. Stores – discount prices that they have escalated all year; people fight over television sets because there are only a few in the store (wink, wink… those cheap advertised prices brought you through the doors!); some folks camp out for days to assure that they are the lucky ones to purchase those highly sought after, cheap items. Fights and unruly violence have been known to occur. Yet year after year, folks go out in groves and stand in line for hours as they cumulatively make Black Friday a $57 billion day. This spend sounds very green to me. Today, this Black Friday, I will be watching the crowds on NBC in the comforts of my home!

Food and Family
Today is Thanksgiving. Here comes the meal preparation, serving food to the needy, parades, and football games…. It is also a day of family gatherings as all partake of delicious comfort food that’s good for the soul – Turkey, dressing, macaroni & cheese, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes pies and so much more! Yum! Thanksgiving is also a day of giving thanks and being thankful. Before the day ends, count your blessings and tell others what you are thankful for …. starting with another day of life! Happy Thanksgiving Day and Blessings! Excuse me. It’s time to eat. Please pass me a thin slice of German chocolate cake! Thank you!

For the past weeks, we have heard about the alleged and highly publicized Bill Cosby’s escapades with eight maybe nine women. Once the numbers started growing, I lost count! I have always admired the accomplishments of Bill Cosby; his theatrical orchestration and influence to show to mainstream America that Black families can be successfully headed by doctors and lawyers. My favorite Cosby Show episode is the Huxtables singing “The Night Time is the Right Time” with baby girl Rudy imitating those Ray Charles “Baby” lyrics! Remember? Whether Bill Cosby did what has been alleged will be proven through the legal system. The court of public opinion is split on the veracity of the claims. Listen up! So much about Bill, let’s shift to Camille. My sentiments go out to the accomplished Mrs. Camille Cosby. No woman wants to hear about her man’s sexual exploits, whether they are true or false. I suspect that the humiliation and embarrassment lie within no matter how strong her outer persona appears. Yet, Camille as so many other similarly situated women continues to stand by her man’s side. Dr. Camille Cosby, I respect you for your strength and do not question what your position should be. I am a fan! I realize that your and Bill’s fifty year marriage should only have room for the two of you, your children and God. Please know that respect for you is not in isolation. A choir of women is singing your song….not the one heretofore referenced, but the Queen’s (Aretha Franklin’s) version of R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

Dingbats! Don’t get frustrated with them; don’t become one either! There are too many. It seems like that they are swarming around everywhere. They will drive you crazy with simple things. I know that your cup is running over with names to place in this category. Yes, dingbats are dingy, but dealing with them may be better than being surrounded by people who plot your fall from grace; wish you the worse and are happy to see havoc in your life. I welcome being around folks who want me to succeed, than those who want me to fail! Just a little dingy thing to think about!

Many viewers tune in on Thursday’s nights to watch Kerry Washington in her role as Scandal’s star, Olivia Pope, a crisis management expert to the President and high profiled individuals. However, some of us need not wait to see the weekly series, when we can get a daily snapshot of scandalous activities in our respective workplaces! The intriguing / inappropriate accompaniments – lies, harassment, innuendoes – are included in the roundup that we call standard office conduct. How about that! If shouting matches, humiliating comments, degradation of coworkers, sexual escapades, theft, abuse, sabotage of material, discrediting others’ professional character, intellectual gymnastics to prove who is the smartest …. describe your office environment, you can perhaps identify with several of the above imaged post it notes (scandals, rumors, lies, enemies, spying, backstabbing…..). Incredible, isn’t it? If your office environment can put the successful “Scandal” to shame, send your information to its creator, Shonda Rhimes. It may become her next blockbuster television series! You then will “be in the money” and not in your scandalous office!

The definition of love is provided in I Corinthian 13: 4-8.
4 Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5 does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6 does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails.
It ventures to say that we have to daily and continually work at loving people – God’s way! To love in this manner is challenging and will take all that we have to stay true to its meaning. For example, you cannot love someone and hold in your heart “a wrong suffered;” an injury from the past! You cannot be a part time or fair weathered lover and be in compliance with this biblical definition. Stop using the word – love – loosely. The 64 words in this scriptural reference are simple and not complicated. Yet, to love God’s way is a tall order. Examine the text; continually work on compliance; keep the instructions penned in your heart, mind, and soul! For most of us, it is work in progress. Yes, 1 Corinthian 13:4-8 are four powerful verses that describe love from the biblical definition! How do you rank? You know the answer and so does God!
Happy Sunday! God bless!

Be selective on the battles that you elect to fight. Hopefully, by now you have realized that you cannot continually fight battles for others. Good person you are; fool you are not! For goodness sake, stop fighting unworthy folks battles, particularly when they gracefully stand on the sidelines. Can they not fight for themselves? Once again, they have benefitted from the fruitage of your labor and energies! It begs me to ask a few simple questions:
Who is tired and worn out from being on the battlefield? – You!
Who is benefitting from your victories and well rested? – Them! Get the point!

The O’Jays had a song in the 1970’s called Backstabbers. Their song referred to romantic backstabbers. Needless to say, there are tons of office backstabbers who sit next to you in their cubicles and offices. Let’s call them your office roommates. They converse with you daily (skinning and grinning). Sometimes daily, you and your office roommate go out to lunch. Unbeknownst to you, they are plotting your demise. If there is a promotion for grabs, their “Mack truck” maneuvers will run over you. In a clandestine fashion, they carry their knives behind their backs. Although there is no frontal view of the weaponry, your “frenemies” aim to destroy you with calculated stabs. Unfortunately, many who have fallen at the hand of the back stabber don’t recognize the blow until they are hit, because the attacker has a smile from ear to ear on their face before the tragic blow. Don’t feel bad, the best of us have been fooled by those smiley faces. Learn from experiences and don’t get stabbed twice! For goodness sake, recognize that three times is not the charm!
