In April 1972, singer songwriter Bill Withers released the mega hit “Lean on Me.” Many of us know the words and probably can sing it effortlessly.
“Sometimes in our lives we all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there’s always tomorrow
Lean on me, when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend
I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need
Somebody to lean on.”
We know that we cannot always rely on people to hold us up. They can and will let us down. We may think that they will be there for us only to be disappointed. Thank goodness that we can rest in God’s arms anytime, anywhere …
We have such an amazing God; an omnipresent Heavenly Father who is always there, who will never leave us. We can lean on him, pray to him, and ask for forgiveness – day in, day out. Several scriptures demonstrate God’s unchanging hand. Psalms 18:2 tells us that “The lord is my rock, and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock in whom I take refuge. My shield and my horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Proverbs 3:5 advises us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”
In 1 Peter 5:7, we are told to “Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” Philippians 4:19 tells us “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” What a mighty God we serve! Lean on God! Leaning on God keeps us from falling.
Happy Sunday. God bless!
