Many of us may attend parades and wear green today as we celebrate St. Patrick Day. So here’s some background that we should know.
“St. Patrick Day is a religious and cultural holiday held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick (c. 385 – c. 461), the foremost patron saint of Ireland.
Tradition holds that he died on 17 March and was buried at Downpatrick. Over the following centuries, many legends grew up around Patrick and he became Ireland's foremost saint.”
Hopefully, this puts more meaning to the traditional St. Patrick Day blessing.
“May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow, and may trouble avoid you wherever you go. He who loses money, loses much; he who loses a friend, loses more; and he who loses faith, loses all. May the leprechauns be near you to spread luck along your way.”
