I’M SICK AND TIRED OF BEING SICK AND TIRED

“I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired” were words echoed by Mississippi’s civil rights activist, Fannie Lou Hamer.

Key points about this phrase:

  • “Origin:

Fannie Lou Hamer famously used this line during her testimony at the 1964 Democratic National Convention, speaking about the difficulties faced by African Americans in the South, including being beaten and jailed for attempting to register to vote.

  • Meaning:

It represents a powerful declaration of being fed up with ongoing struggles and a call for action to address them.”

As we look at the landscape today, those words are ringing in our ears. It has always been said that knowing history is important so that we don’t make the same mistakes of yesteryears. History provides a template.

With the planned direction of several programs and executive orders in this country, I hope that we heed that aged old advice

and don’t take backward steps. Otherwise, we will return to the injustices that we fought years and years to escape. Let’s pray that’s this is not the case. I hope that it’s not too late!
